Volodymyr Voit
Honoured Artist of Ukraine, bandura player, improviser, composer.
He promotes the Kharkiv style of playing and the acoustics of historical instruments, demonstrating an alternative to the Soviet or New Age style – the language of the bandura. He explores the music of the bandura’s avant-garde period, playing in such styles as minimalism, ethno-baroque fusion, ethno-renaissance, etc. He experiments with complex timbre procedures on the bandura. He collaborates with contemporary composers from Ukraine, Germany and the USA. He plays in collaboration with Ukrainian improvisers, including Yulian Kitastyi, Viktor Pushkar, Solomiya Moroz, Maksym Kolomiets, Nazariy Stets, Oleh Skakun of the Ukrainian Improvisers Orchestra. Also with the band Okean Elzy, improvisational evenings with musicians from the USA, including Marc Ribot and Frank London.
Author of film scores: ‘We’ll Break Through (Ukraine, 2007), Music of Survival (Canada, 2015), Frying Pan. Flowers of Ecstasy (Ukraine 2023), etc.
In recent years, he has played at music festivals: ‘World Music Festival Bratislava’ 2022; “Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival” (hcmf//) UK 2022; “Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festilal” (UCMF) New York, USA 2023.
