This page of the history of social thought is extremely poorly studied, its content is known only to a very narrow circle of specialists. Today, “racial theories” are part of the past of social thought, but they have been replaced on the pedestal of scholarship by new gods in the form of techno-fundamentalism, whose reception today is surprisingly consistent with how much faith was placed in the discovery of the power of “race” at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. So perhaps this forgotten history can be instructive for us today.
